In the first film, Lucius was a young child whose mother had taken him to Africa to avoid Rome’s grasp. Now that he’s back as a gladiator, he runs across Denzel Washington’s formidable Macrinus and Russell Crowe’s General Marcus Acacius, who used to be General Maximus’s deputy.

The teaser for Gladiator looks just as grand as the first film, boasting an even more star-studded cast. Paul Mescal, a young Irish actor, caught director Ridley Scott’s eye after his performance in Normal People. They had a brief conversation before Scott decided to cast him.
