Immediate, Ongoing Search Operations
Following the terrorists’ attack on the Army convoy in J&K, Indian troops quickly engaged and returned fire. A defense official confirmed, “After firing by terrorists, our troops also retaliated.” This attack is part of a recent surge in terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
An extensive search operation was already underway in the Majakote area of Rajouri district after an Army personnel was injured on July 7. The search has intensified to apprehend the terrorists responsible for the latest attack.
The attack on the Army convoy in Kathua was meticulously planned. Sources revealed that the terrorists used advanced weapons, including M4 Carbine rifles and explosive devices, to maximize casualties. They conducted a reconnaissance of the area, likely with assistance from local supporters, before executing the attack.
The ambush took place in Badnota village, an area with poor road connectivity where vehicles can only move slowly. The terrorists exploited this terrain, positioning themselves atop hills. They first lobbed grenades at the Army vehicles and then opened fire, targeting the driver first.

Rahul Gandhi, the opposition leader in the Lok Sabha, also condemned the attack, highlighting the need for strong action. “These cowardly attacks on our army are highly condemnable. The fifth terrorist attack within a month is a grave blow to the security of the country and the lives of our soldiers. The solution to these relentless terror attacks will come from strong action, not from hollow speeches and false promises,” he said.
